Travelling to Vancouver for rhinoplasty

8 West Clinic regularly sees patients from across Canada and internationally who travel to Vancouver specifically to work with Dr. Buonassisi. Our team has extensive experience coordinating care for out-of-town patients — from virtual consultations through to remote follow-up care after you return home.

Starting with a virtual consultation

Out-of-town patients typically begin with a virtual consultation. This allows Dr. Buonassisi to review your goals and anatomy, discuss whether you are a good candidate, and outline the recommended approach — before you commit to travelling to Vancouver. If you decide to proceed, an in-person pre-operative appointment is scheduled for approximately one week before your surgery date.

Planning your stay in Vancouver

We recommend planning to stay in Vancouver for a minimum of 10–14 days after surgery. This covers:

  • Surgery day and the immediate post-operative period
  • Cast removal appointment (day 7–10)
  • First post-operative review
  • Sufficient time for initial swelling and bruising to reduce before travel

Our Patient Care team can provide accommodation recommendations near the clinic. Several hotels within walking distance offer extended-stay options at preferred rates for 8 West patients.

Flying after rhinoplasty

Flying within the first 7–10 days post-surgery is not recommended. Changes in cabin pressure can increase swelling and discomfort, and being far from the clinic during the highest-risk period of recovery is not advisable. Most out-of-town patients fly home between days 12 and 14, following their cast removal and first post-operative review.

Follow-up care after you return home

After you return home, follow-up appointments are conducted virtually. Dr. Buonassisi and your Patient Care Manager remain accessible throughout your recovery. If any concerns arise that require in-person assessment, our team will advise on the appropriate next step.
